My name is Kara McNeely. I am 28 years old, and this is my 7th year of teaching 5th grade at Pratt Elementary. I graduated from Capital High School, and then moved down to Huntington to attend Marshall. I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education K-6 in May of 2011. Pratt was my first job, and has a very special place in my heart. In January of 2015 I went back to Marshall to pursue my Master's Degree in Literacy Education. I graduated with my Master's in December 2016.
In my spare time, I spend most of it with my two nieces, Brooklyn (5) and Aubrey (2). I am all about family. I live in Cross Lanes, so it is quite a commute to Pratt each day, but I truly feel at home when I'm at work. I am a huge Marshall fan, and always attend the football games! I have three cats: Salsa, Queso, and Chips. They are my fur babies!
The best part about teaching is after the students move on to middle school and high school, they come back and tell you that you helped them to succeed. Students often come back and talk about remembering my class, enjoying themselves, and talk about their plans for the future. On the days I feel like I'm not good enough, I think about those moments and it makes it all worth it. I am here for my students, they are my number one priority. If you ever need to contact me, my email is [email protected]. My planning time Monday-Friday is from 10:15-11:00.
